Escape to the North Pole

0

EXCLUSIVE: Alloy Entertainment’s Head of Film Elysa Dutton has written a children’s book and her employer is turning it into its first animated feature film.

The company is developing Christmas Forever: Escape to the North Pole.

It comes days after Alloy Entertainment boss Leslie Morgenstein reupped his deal with Warner Bros. Television.

The book is to be published in the fall through Penguin/Random House, with illustrations from Manu Montoya.

Dutton and Alloy President and Chief Creative Officer Leslie Morgenstein will produce the project, which is currently out to writers.

Christmas Forever: Escape to the North Pole is set on Christmas Eve, when a group of ornaments, tired of being stuck in storage all year, devise an escape plan to the North Pole where it will be Christmas forever.

Dutton is a veteran film producer and production executive who runs the film division at Alloy Entertainment. She said her inspiration was her dad’s “spirited” readings of books such as Where the Wild Things Are.

Alloy’s slate includes Netflix’s You starring Penn Badgley, returning for its fifth season, and Max’s upcoming Pretty Little Liars: Summer School.

It also has produced three consecutive top films for Netflix including You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, starring Adam Sandler and Idina Menzel, Purple Hearts, starring Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine, and Work It, starring Sabrina Carpenter. Its next film, the genre motion picture Tarot, will be released through Sony Pictures in May.

“We’re always interested in telling compelling stories with vivid characters to a variety of audiences and this will be our first foray into the exciting world of animation,” said Morgenstein.

“Writing this book has been a bucket list moment and I can’t wait for the world to meet these little ornaments with big dreams,” added Dutton.

New York Times rips Kamala Harris’ Puerto Rico trip as an ‘epic fail’: Columnist says visit where she awkwardly clapped at a protest song was ‘reminiscent of the HBO show Veep’

0

  • Harris unwittingly clapped along to a song that protesters were performing during her visit
  •  Dr. Yarimar Bonilla wrote for the New York Times that Harris’ visit was ‘an embarrassing spectacle’
  • Puerto Rico residents are struggling to keep basic infrastructure running like power and running water.

Vice President Kamala Harris‘ trip to Puerto Rico last week was branded as an ‘epic fail’ by an op-ed featured in New York Times on Thursday.

Harris made a quick trip to Puerto Rico on Friday for an event featuring a home fitted with solar panels and a visit to a cultural community center before attending a big-dollar fundraiser from some of the wealthiest residents of the island. The visit was about five hours long.

Dr. Yarimar Bonilla criticized Harris’ appearance on the island in an op-ed for the Times, pointing to the incident where Harris found herself unwittingly clapping to the music of protesters during her visit.

‘In a scene reminiscent of the HBO show Veep, the vice president clapped haplessly along to the Spanish protest songs that greeted her, apparently not realizing the lyrics were critical of her visit,’ she wrote.

HBO’s show Veep is the dark comedy of the first historic woman vice president president dealing with the absurdity of politics and awkward social encounters in office.

The translated lyrics to the Spanish protest song were as follows:

‘We want to know, Kamala

What did you come here for?

We want to know, Kamala

We want to see

If you’re going to talk about law 60

Or about the Fiscal Control Board

The vice president is here

Making history

We want to know

What she thinks of the colony

We will keep playing

The plena of our country

Long live Free Palestine

and Haiti too!’

Local Puerto Rico residents are furious about Law 60, which allows land investors big tax breaks as long as they buy property in Puerto Rico and live there half the year. The revised laws has created a land rush in Puerto Rico, making the cost of housing and land more expensive.

Bonilla also revealed the home Harris visited took seven years to get rebuilt after Hurricane Maria, a sign of how the federal government continued to fail the island.

‘While the Trump administration may have left Puerto Ricans in the dark after the hurricane, it was the Democrats who set the stage for the storm’s disastrous aftermath,’ she wrote, noting that ‘the federal government repeatedly fails Puerto Ricans, no matter which party is in charge.’

Bonilla also recounted a list of Biden’s broken campaign promises to Puerto Rico, even as residents struggle for basic services like electricity, water, and education.

Although she recalled the moment that Trump threw rolls of paper towels into a crowd of hurricane victims, she indicated that Harris’ visit was just as bad.

‘While she did not toss paper towels, her visit was what Puerto Ricans call a papelón — an embarrassing spectacle,’ she concluded.

Homecoming Showrunner Gives Update On Season 3

0

The All American universe is returning to The CW very soon.

While audiences will have to wait a few more months until they catch up with the students at Bringston University on All American: Homecoming, production is in full swing on the upcoming 13-episode season.

Showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll teased to Deadline during All American‘s 100th episode party that they are currently shooting “what might be one of my favorite episodes of the season.”

“It is sort of a tribute to my love of rom coms [and] my love of beautiful, slow-evolving relationship movies and dramas where we’re just centered around two characters in one day in their life over the course of this episode, and I’m just so incredibly excited,” she said.

According to Carroll, Season 3 of All American: Homecoming will experience a similar time jump to that of the flagship series, which is picking up with Season 6 just over a year after the events of the Season 5 finale.

Shifts in the casting have hinted at some larger changing narratives in Season 3 of Homecoming, with both Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette becoming recurring instead of series regulars while Martin Bobb-Semple was upped to series regular.

Carroll remained tight-lipped about those changes, but she did tease that audiences should expect the unexpected from the writers room this season.

“The actors have taken the new direction we’ve taken the show in and they’ve just raised it to another level,” she said. “I am so excited for people to see this season of Homecoming and how our characters have also grown and matured and how they’re now handling situations differently.”

All American: Homecoming is a young adult sports drama set against the backdrop of the HBCU experience at Bringston University, where Black excellence is a way of life. The series stars Geffri Maya, Cory Hardrict, Sylvester Powell, Camille Hyde, Mitchell Edwards, Netta Walker and Rhoyle Ivy King. Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette will recur.

So far, there’s no release date for Season 3 of Homecoming, though it’ll debut sometime in the summer following the 13-episode Season 6 of All American, which premieres on April 1.

Kansas City man who was arrested at Super Bowl parade after shooting files $75k lawsuit against GOP congressman who called him the ‘shooter’ and an ‘illegal alien’

0

The Kansas man who was falsely deemed an ‘illegal alien‘ and one of the gunmen at the Chiefs Super Bowl rally is suing a Tennessee state representative for defaming him.

Denton Loudermill seeks damages in excess of $75,000 for a ‘false representation’ of him that appeared on Rep. Tim Burchett’s (R-TN) social media account.

The Olathe man was detained at the parade and photos of him spread across X, formerly Twitter, accompanied by the false claim that he was an undocumented immigrant and one of the suspects in the shooting that claimed the life of radio presenter Lisa Lopez-Galvan.

Burchett amplified these claims with a February 15 post on his personal X account, captioning the image: ‘One of the Kansas City Chiefs victory parade shooters has been identified as an illegal Alien.’

According to court documents reviewed by DailyMail.com, the Republican lawmaker’s post amassed 21,000 retweets and more than 7.2 million views by the morning of February 18.

‘Burchett then removed the post, indicating in a new one that he had misidentified Loudermill as an undocumented immigrant, while still suggesting that Loudermill was “one of the shooters,”‘ the suit reads.

The lawsuit claims the false characterization caused Loudermill to ‘receive death threats and to suffer mental distress,’ adding that he is expected to continue to experience ‘periods of anxiety, agitation, and sleep disruption.’

The suit also details the circumstances around Loudermill’s detainment.

‘As Plaintiff started moving from the area, the Police had started taping it off. As Plaintiff tried to go under the tape to leave the area, Officers stopped him and told him he was moving “too slow,”‘ it reads.

He was put in handcuffs and seated on a curb, at which point ‘people began taking pictures of him.’ After roughly 10 minutes, he was walked a few blocks away, uncuffed and told that he was free to go.

Loudermill was not charged, nor cited, with a crime or offense, the suit asserts.

It notes that Burchett was not among the 500,000 people in attendance at the parade on February 14.

‘Plaintiff is not and never has been an illegal alien, having been born and raised in the United States of America,’ the suit reads.

‘On February 14, 2024, Plaintiff was not the “shooter” and was not in any way involved in the shooting.

‘At no time did Law Enforcement detain, cite, or arrest Plaintiff for any involvement with the shooting at the Super Bowl celebration. At no time did Plaintiff engage in any gun violence at the Super Bowl celebration.’

It notes that Burchett was not among the 500,000 people in attendance that day.

The suit further asserts that the congressman ‘knew or should have known that his inflammatory post on social media would be seen and read nationwide,’ including in Kansas, where Loudermill lived.

It deems the politician’s actions ‘willful, wanton, reckless, and malicious,’ showing ‘a complete and deliberate indifference to, and conscious disregard for, the rights of Plaintiff.’

The Olathe man seeks a jury trial and at least $75,000 in damages for ‘false light invasion of privacy.’

Under Kansas state law, this is considered one of four types of invasion of privacy, occurring when a highly offensive false publication is made to a third party.

Speaking to members of the media outside the Olathe Public Library on Wednesday, Loudermill expressed that he simply wanted Burchett ‘to apologize and spread the word that I am not the guy that he says I was.’

‘I just want him to be held accountable for what he did and said to me,’ Loudermill said.

He explained that his children had become the target of questions and ‘and stuff like that. I just don’t want this to be this known.’

Loudermill was accompanied by his attorney, LaRonna Lassiter Saunders, who said it was ‘time for action.’

‘If the congressman and others had owned the misinformation it wouldn’t have felt so intentional or a disregard for the damage that was done to Mr. Loudermill,’ she said.

‘At this point, I think we’ve done enough talking and it’s time for action. We are going to let the legal process work.’

The New Empire Have A Credits Scene? A Spoiler-Free Guide

0

Put simply, no. There is absolutely no credits scene or anything that viewers should hang around for. There is no tease of what’s to come in the MonsterVerse, no extra footage, nothing at all. It’s just a long list of names of people who helped to bring this massive, monster-sized blockbuster to life. Simple as that. For what it’s worth, “Godzilla vs. Kong” nearly had a credits scene but it didn’t ultimately come to pass. So this falls in line with what Wingard did previously.

The human cast includes returning stars Rebecca Hall (Ilene Andrews), Brian Tyree Henry (Bernie Hayes), and Kaylee Hottle (Jia). The cast also includes Dan Stevens (“Legion,” “Beauty and the Beast”), Alex Ferns (“The Batman,” “Wrath of Man”), and Fala Chen (“Irma Vep,” “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”). Terry Rossio (“Pirates of the Caribbean”), Simon Barrett (“You’re Next”), and Jeremy Slater (“Moon Knight”) penned the screenplay. The official synopsis for the film reads as follows:

The epic battle continues! Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of “Godzilla vs. Kong” with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence — and our own. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” hits theaters on March 29, 2024.

Joey Graziadei & Kelsey Anderson On Finale

0

The Bachelor franchise often teases that each season will boast the “most dramatic” moments audiences have ever witnessed.

But Season 28’s ending may have actually fit that bill. Viewers watched Joey Graziadei get engaged to Kelsey Anderson on Monday night during a touching and heartfelt proposal that was made more emotional by the moments the cameras captured just before Graziadei got down on one knee, when Anderson received encouragement from Daisy Kent, who had just broken up with Graziadei on the beach.

In an unusual turn of events, Anderson and Kent had driven down to the beach together after having an honest conversation in Anderson’s hotel room about their perceptions of their relationships with Graziadei.

“I think that we were both very emotional after our conversation. We both got a lot of clarity through it,” Anderson told Deadline after the finale. “We just decided that we wanted to be there for each other on that ride there because it was a big ride to a big moment for both of us in different ways. It was really special to be able to have that together and just hype each other up on the car ride there.”

After Kent left Graziadei on the beach, she marched back up to the van and, before departing, she gave some words of encouragement to Anderson to help her take in the big moment she was walking into.

Meanwhile, Graziadei, who was quite emotional following his break up with Kent, didn’t have a clue what was going on just a few steps away from him.

“I didn’t find out about the car ride together until after the engagement,” he said. “I thought it was special.”

Now that they’re about four months into their engagement and, finally, able to make it public, the pair — who revealed on After the Final Rose that they’ll soon be moving to New York City together — tell Deadline that they’re looking forward to “the little things” they’re learning about each other in their relationship.

“We built such a strong foundation in a short period of time, but we’re still learning more about each other every day,” Graziadei said. “And that’s really exciting for us right now.”

Teenager, 19, who killed two friends and seriously injured a third when he crashed his car while driving at more than double the speed limit just three months after passing his test is jailed for six years

0

A teenager who killed two friends and seriously injured a third when he crashed his car while driving at more than double the speed limit only three months after passing his test has been jailed.

Owain Hammett-George, who was 17 at the time, from Birchgrove, Swansea, was jailed for six years at Swansea Crown Court on Thursday after admitting causing death by dangerous driving, and of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The court heard Hammett-George, now 19, was driving at speeds of up to 78mph on a 30mph road when his Alfa Romeo – which had a personalised plate reading OW11 AAN – left the road before crashing into a petrol station forecourt.

Ben Rogers and Kaitlyn Davies, both 19, were killed instantly, while Casey Thomas, then aged 17, sustained life-changing injuries during the incident on the B4436 in Bishopston, Swansea, on May 31 2022.

Following the collision, it emerged that Hammett-George had been caught speeding just a week after passing his test in February 2022, but his father Dewi George took the blame to avoid him getting points on his licence.

Judge Geraint Walters, sentencing Hammett-George, said he had been driving at ‘grossly excessive speeds’ at the time of the collision.

‘On this particular evening, you were in your motor car with three of your young friends. You were showing off,’ the judge told the defendant.

‘You drove at grossly excessive speeds to the point where you lost control of the vehicle and immediately effectively extinguished the lives of two of those in the car.

‘I have no shadow of a doubt that you purposefully took the decision to exceed the speed limit.

‘The consequences of the speed and the subsequent collision were as such that two road traffic police officers, who sadly routinely attend cases of this sort, describe it as the worst case of damage they have ever seen to a motor vehicle.’

The judge said the case raised the issue of whether recently qualified drivers should be allowed to carry passengers immediately after passing their tests.

Speaking to Hammett-George, who was aged 17 years and 10 months at the time of the collision, the judge said: ‘You were nowhere near ready to be entrusted with a motor car at the time that you were.

‘You are immature and, in my judgment on the facts of this case as I read it, are overindulged by your parents.

‘That in part is a factor in the fact that you are sitting there in front of me at the moment.

‘You were overindulged – a car before you were fit to have one, out late in the evening with other youngsters in the car.

‘Your parents were aware of the potential danger because there are messages passing between you and other family members that says so.

‘Within a very short period of passing your test, that you were to be prosecuted for speeding – albeit for a modest increase in that case – it was a sense of what might be coming.

‘The greatest act of indulgence is to take the responsibility for your conduct onto the shoulders of your own father.’

The court heard Dewi George had claimed he was driving the Alfa Romeo on February 28 2022 – seven days after his son passed his test – when it was caught travelling at 35mph in a 30mph limit in Swansea.

Following the fatal accident, police investigated the speeding offence and found George had been working in Cardiff at that time.

He was jailed for four months in July 2023 after admitting perverting the course of justice.

The court heard Hammett-George had collected Miss Davies and Miss Thomas from work in Swansea at about 10pm.

He was driving on the B4436 when he lost control of the car, which left the road, landed on its roof and then crashed into a concrete pillar by one of the pumps at Northway petrol station at about 11pm.

Hammett-George, along with Mr Rogers and Miss Davies, were ejected from the vehicle.

The defendant was not wearing a seatbelt, but had it buckled underneath him to stop the warning sounding when the incident took place.

Passing motorists and local residents immediately came to the aid of those injured, including administering CPR to Mr Rogers and Miss Davies, but their injuries were not survivable.

Prosecuting, Ian Wright said the vehicle was ‘unrecognisable’ after the crash, with its engine block situated 15 metres away.

‘The scene described is one of utter devastation,’ Mr Wright told the court.

Hammett-George, who also sustained serious injuries in the collision, told officers at the scene: ‘I was doing 60 and I hit a pothole and it threw me to the right.’

However, Mr Wright said an investigation found no pothole and estimated that the defendant had been driving at speeds of between 70 and 78 mph on the 30mph limit road.

Messages found on Hammett-George’s mobile phone included his mother previously warning ‘black box going on your car’ and saying she hoped he received further speeding fines ‘so you lose your job and then the car will 100% be off you’.

On February 26 – just five days after passing his test – a message believed to be from the defendant’s sister warned he was ‘putting everyone at risk’.

It added: ‘Do everyone a favour and pack it in please before it is too late.’

Victim personal statements from the families of Mr Rogers and Miss Davies, as well as a statement from Miss Thomas, were read to the court detailing the devastating impact of the crash.

Mr Rogers’ mother, Carla King, said: ‘Ben was my only son. He was full of kindness and a social butterfly. I don’t want to get out of bed – I don’t want to face the world.

‘I am a shadow of the person I used to be. The fact I will never see him smile again is crippling. I can’t comprehend that I will never see my son or hear his voice again.’

Mr Rogers’ father, Lee James Rogers, added: ‘Ben was loving and kind-hearted. He loved life and would light up the room with his presence and personality. The last time I saw my son he was in the morgue – this will haunt me forever.’

Miss Davies’ mother, Kimberly Davies, told the court: ‘She was an amazing human being with a wonderful sense of humour.

‘She was very kind, caring, and loving. Every day is a constant struggle. Life is so hard not having her by my side. She would light up every room she entered. I cannot even go into her bedroom without crying. The pain is indescribable.’

Miss Thomas, who sustained serious injuries in the crash, said: ‘As a result of that collision I have lost two of my friends. I will never the same outgoing person I was before the crash.

‘But I will not let the crash define who I can be or who I will be. This accident has had a massive impact on myself and my family. Because of [Hammett-George’s] stupidity it is very hard for me to do the things that a normal 19-year-old would do.’

Representing Hammett-George, Alex Greenwood said his client expressed the ‘deepest and most profound remorse’ for what happened.

Alex Greenwood, mitigating, said Hammett-George had sat in the dock and ‘listened intently’ to the words of the families of those whose lives he had so deeply affected with his actions.

In a letter written to the court Hammett-George said he is full of the ‘deepest and most profound remorse’ and that he ‘can’t begin to fathom the pain it has caused’.

Hammett-George added: ‘I was the driver of the vehicle which led to the untimely deaths of two precious lives.

‘I am committed to accepting the legal consequences that will follow as a result. If there was any way I could turn back time and prevent this tragedy I would do so in a heartbeat.’

Hammett-George was sentenced to six years in a young offender institution. He was also disqualified from driving for eight years and told he will need to pass an extended driving test before he is able to obtain a licence again.

Speaking directly to Hammett-George, Judge Walters added: ‘You have your life. Two of the other people involved in this case do not.’

The judge added: ‘There may be good reasons for the Government to consider whether new drivers should be able to carry any passengers until a period of time has passed.

‘It is not the first time I’ve said it, it probably will not be the last. You are not the only young man I have had to sentence in circumstances precisely like this.’

Nibert was the driver of a black Honda Accord heading eastbound that crossed the double yellow line and hit the tractor trailer head on, according to the corner’s office

It remains unclear what prompted him to swerve into the tractor trailer, or what the relationships between the passengers were.

‘No one wants to see a child involved. Today was just one of the days I wish I didn’t have to experience,’ Farmington Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Brian VanSickle told WPXI on Tuesday.

‘That stretch of road is a dangerous stretch of road. We’ve had, over the years, numerous fatalities. Today’s event was probably the worst one we’ve had.’

The corner said all the victims were from Delaware, Ohio and in the same car at the time of the crash.

Thivener’s brother, Robb Thivener, told DailyMail.com: ‘Scott, as most knew him, was a bright light and a friend to everyone he met. He had a big heart and always helped those in need if he could.’

‘He was a big personality in a lil body, and there was always laughter that surrounded him with his quirky sayings and sarcasm. Thank you to all of the friends and family that have reached out. The outpouring of support from strangers from Pennsylvania and Ohio is heartwarming as well.

‘As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he had the hope of an earthly resurrection in paradise soon to come, so until we see each other again little brother. You will be incredibly missed,’ said Robb.

Another one of his brothers, Michael Thivener, said on Facebook: ‘No doubt, Scott was one of a kind. I love you little brother, and I’m gonna miss you so much.’

A friend of Dawson’s, Bambi Rogan, said: ‘My heart aches as I found out my ex General Manager Amanda Dawson was in a fatal crash. I will miss you beautiful lady and may God be with your family.’

According to her LinkedIn profile, Dawson worked in the food industry and was a general manager at Barrio Tacos.

‘The investigation is ongoing with the collision analysis and reconstruction specialists on scene,’ said Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Kalee Barnhart.

Sources told KDKA-TV that a witness reported to police that the driver of the Honda made an illegal pass before the crash and speed may have been a factor.

All five victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Two people in the other vehicle and the truck driver have minor injuries, reported WBNS.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reportedly shut down Route 40 in both directions between the intersection of Route 381 and the intersection of Dinner Bell 5 Forks Road and Dinner Bell Ohiopyle Road due to the crash until 7 p.m.
