With the future of starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom up in the air, Calgary Flames fans might be relieved to hear that prospect Dustin Wolf is putting on an elite performance for the Wranglers in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Wolf, 23, put up pretty incredible numbers in the Wranglers’ first-round sweep of the Tuscon Roadrunners, with a .966 save percentage and 1.54 goals-against average in the best-of-three series.
The 2019 seventh-round pick had a 46-save shutout in Game 1 and made 40 of 43 saves in Game 2, with his team scoring four goals to secure the victory.
“I felt good,” Wolf said to reporters after Game 1. “Played quite a few games the last couple months. It felt good to come back here. This is the playoffs, it’s the best time of the year and you want to put your best foot forward and obviously happy that happened.”
The presumptive goalie of the future spent some time with the big club this season, but in 17 starts with the struggling Flames, he had an .893 save percentage.
After the Flames concluded the regular season, he and fellow prospects Matt Coronato, Adam Klapka and Jakob Pelletier joined the AHL club as they embark on their journey to win a Calder Cup.
