Dramatic moment plane is forced to make an emergency landing – with sparks flying as it scraped along the runway

Dramatic footage shows the moment a plane made an emergency landing in darkness after its landing gear failed on its approach.

Sparks were seen flying from the Beechcraft 58 Baron as it touched down at Gold Coast Airport at about 9pm on Tuesday night.

The plane had been forced to circle the airport, dumping fuel for about an hour before the pilots performed a ‘dark landing’ without the landing gear.

It’s understood the two experienced pilots switched off all of the aircraft’s electrics to avoid any flammable fuels catching fire on the way down.

Emergency services, including critical care paramedics, were stationed on the tarmac in case of a failed landing.

Both pilots were assessed but didn’t need to be transported to hospital – both walking away from the terrifying ordeal without a scratch.

The Beechcraft 58 Baron is owned by Air Gold Coast, a Queensland flying school that has been offering training courses for almost 60 years.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Gold Coast Air for comment.

A Gold Coast Airport spokeswoman said: ‘A light aircraft experienced a technical issue with its landing gear upon approach to Gold Coast Airport last night.

‘The experienced pilots on board landed the aircraft safely with the landing gear retracted. ‘There are no ongoing impacts to airport operations.’

‘The two pilots, aged in their 40s and 60s, were assessed on scene by paramedics. No one was injured.’

The cause of the incident will now be investigated.
