A major off-season acquisition for the Houston Texans won’t be available for the team’s playoff drive.
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs has suffered a season-ending torn ACL, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.
Diggs exited Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts in the third quarter with a non-contact injury.
The Maryland product was running a route late in the third quarter and pulled up and grabbed at his right knee before falling to the ground.
He was tended to by trainers and helped to his feet after a couple of minutes. He slowly walked off the field on his own and went straight to the locker room without stopping to be checked out in the medical tent.
The Texans acquired Diggs from the Buffalo Bills in the off-season in a cap-clearing move for the latter team. He then restructured his contract into a one-year deal with the Texans, meaning he’ll be a free agent at the end of this campaign.
Diggs was a four-time Pro Bowler in four seasons in Buffalo, but posted several cryptic messages seemingly expressing his unhappiness.
Diggs, 30, has 42 catches for 415 yards and three touchdowns with the Texans (6-2), who have the second-best record in the AFC.
Houston does have a deep receiving depth chart. Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Robert Woods and Canadian John Metchie III are targets for quarterback C.J. Stroud.
