Tubi Invites You to Greenlight New Fan-Driven TV Shows, Movies

When Tubi announced the beta launch of its Stubios program back in May, fans were urged to get in on the action during the development process for new Tubi originals. Today, the Fox-owned free streaming service wants to bring viewers backstage — virtually — to see how some of these projects are coming along. You can also help to greenlight a new slate of TV shows and movies from a set of 14 finalists.

Tubi’s Stubios initiative allows creators with or without any filmmaking experience to become “Stubio runners” who see their streaming projects through from conception to their final execution on screen. Fans can contribute to choices for casting, music, story and art design, syncing up with the creators to have a say in what’s part of the final project. Tubi funds the productions and creatives receive mentorship and guidance from Hollywood professionals.

On Tuesday, Tubi shared that four Stubios projects are now underway and fans can check out behind-the-scenes footage on the platform. Under the mentorship of Issa Rae, creators have developed, produced, filmed and directed their own shows and movies. Viewers can get a glimpse of Lady London’s docuseries and TikTok personality Kelon Campbell’s film that features his character, Terri Joe. Another TikTok crew — A Twink and Redhead — are rolling out a scripted comedy series about a diner in Atlanta, and a comedy special starring Cris Sosa, Grant Moore and Daniela Mora is due to arrive this December.

While those four projects are available to explore right now at Stubios, fans can also support a group of hopeful up-and-comers seeking to have their stories greenlit. The aim is to engage with 14 Stubios program finalists via posts, and the first project to reach 15,000 engagements within the three-week time frame will get the green light to become a new Tubi original release. Fans need to sign up for the free Stubios app to participate in the process and help their favorites hit the goal by Nov. 11.
