November has historically been known as the busiest period of the year for video games, with numerous big-name releases typically coming out around that time. Now, thanks to Black Friday, it’s proving just as exciting, with plenty of opportunities to walk away with the latest titles at low prices. That certainly applies today, with Metaphor: ReFantazio on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S dropping to a new low price of $50 just over a month after it launched. These discounted prices are available at both Amazon and Walmart.
Developed by Atlus subsidiary Studio Zero — best known for the Persona series — the JRPG takes place in an alternative United Kingdom, where an orphaned boy must take part in a Royal Tournament to help decide the successor to the throne. Already selling more than one million copies, it’s fairly surprising that the game has dropped by 29% so soon after release.

CNET Senior Reporter Imad Khan went hands-on with Metaphor: ReFantazio, summarizing: “Despite the fantasy world not being particularly deep or interesting, it doesn’t take away from the overall gameplay. Even though it’s a retread of past Persona formulas, it’s polished and makes for a satisfying gameplay loop.”
That said, the game did receive a hugely positive 94 score on Metacritic, so the general consensus has been largely positive. This has culminated with the title receiving a nomination for Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2024.
Why this deal matters
It’s not often that a game that is selling incredibly well receives a $20 discount only a month after launch. Some Nintendo and Sony first-party titles have yet to receive that kind of price cut years after release. So, couple that with the critical acclaim the Atlus JRPG has received, and it’s fair to say this is one of the top Black Friday offers when it comes to video games. A great excuse to treat yourself or someone close this holiday season, perhaps?
The good news is that Black Friday PS5 deals are arriving in droves, with games like God of War Ragnarok, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, NBA 2K25, Warhammer 40:000 Space Marine 2 and Elden Ring all falling in cost. So no matter your gaming preferences, you’ve got some good options to choose from.
