Disney+’s ‘Hyper Knife’ Stars Sul Kyung-gu & Park Eun-bin Talk New Medical Thriller; Streamer Sets Release Date

Disney+ Korean drama Hyper Knife, starring actress Park Eun-bin and actor Sul Kyung-gu, will release on the platform on March 19.

The medical crime thriller tells the story of Jeong Se-ok (played by Park), a formerly successful neurosurgeon who works as a shadow doctor in an underground surgery clinic after being expelled by her mentor, Choi Deok-hee (played by Sul). Soon, both doctors reunite, reigniting a tense and emotional rivalry.

Park previously starred in hit drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo as well as Castaway Diva, and told Deadline that she enjoyed learning about medical practices and procedures while on the set of Hyper Knife.

“We had a medical professor on the shoot all the time and we were coached about the medical directions and procedures, which was a very new and creative experience,” says Park. “I got to look through microscopes and brain models during the shoot.”

Veteran actor Sul, who has appeared in critically and commercially successful films over the last 30 years, including Peppermint Candy, Silmido and A Normal Family, adds: “There are certain procedures that you need to do before you go into surgery, from wearing the scrubs and washing your hands and arms. There were a lot of details that we needed to take care of and the professor would always advise us. Whenever we made small mistakes, he would coach us.”

On what keeps Sul going in the film and television industry after so many decades, he says: “What keeps me going is the new kinds of work that I get to do, and all the new challenges and opportunities that I come across. Some actors choose to take breaks in between their projects, but I prefer to keep taking on new work to keep my creativity flowing. I try to forget what I have done in the past so that I can keep evolving and immersing myself in my new role.

“When I read the script for Hyper Knife for the first time, I was very amazed by this very strange and weird relationship between Se-ok and Deok-hee. They are teacher and apprentice, but this script provided a very different dynamic that I have ever seen,” says Sul. “It was a creative and different touch to that kind of relationship and there is a love-hate relationship going on. This appealed to me and is the kind of creative and new work that keeps me going in this industry.”
