How to Remote Play PS5 to PC, Mac, iPhone, Android and Portal

The PlayStation 5 is a versatile gaming console, even if you want to play games on the go. Sony has multiple ways to take your PS5 games with you, whether you’re on your phone, tablet or laptop, and the setup is easy.

Remote Play is a feature that started back on the PS4 and has become more of a staple with the PS5. All it takes is an app and high-speed internet to play PS5 games as if you were sitting in front of your TV and console at home.

Setting up PS5 Remote Play on your computers or portable devices is fairly straightforward, but it does require some digging around in the settings. You’ll also need to have your PlayStation Network account set up and ready for online play. There’s an even easier way to play your PS5 games on the go, though: PlayStation Portal. Details on setting that up are below, too.

Mac or PC

Playing your PS5 on your Mac or Windows PC isn’t difficult and gives you a simple way to extend your game time away from the console. To start, you’ll need to download the free PS Remote Play app from Sony’s site, which has links to the Windows and Mac versions

  • Install the app on your computer
  • On your PS5, setup Remote Play by going to [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play > [Enable Remote Play]
  • Start the app on your computer and sign into your PSN account
  • Select between setting up PS5 or PS4 for remote play
  • Choose PS5, and the app will search for the console on the network
  • Select the found PS5 and start playing

Bluetooth or wired controllers are supported to play your games.

Phone or Tablet

If you’d like to play your PS5 games on something even more mobile-friendly than a laptop, you can use the PS Remote Play app on a phone or tablet instead.

Apple devices need iOS 14/iPadOS 14 or later, while Android devices need Android 9 or later. You’ll also need to create a PlayStation Network account.

If your device is set, then follow these steps:

  • Download the PS Remote Play from the App Store or Google Play
  • On your PS5, setup Remote Play by going to [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play > [Enable Remote Play]
  • Open the PS Remote Play app
  • Sign into your PSN account
  • Select between setting up PS5 or PS4 for remote play
  • Choose PS5, and the app will search for the console on the network
  • Select the found PS5 and start playing

The PS Remote Play app does support Bluetooth controllers, including the PS5 DualSense Edge controller and Backone One mobile controller. However, controller support requires Android 10 or later for a DualShock 4 controller, iOS 14.5/iPadOS 14.5 or Android 12 or later for a DualSense controller and iOS 16.4/iPadOS 16.4 or Android 14 or later for a DualSense Edge.

PlayStation Portal

If you want the easiest option to use Remote Play on your PS5, it doesn’t get any easier than the PlayStation Portal. Sony designed the handheld device solely to play your console remotely, whether from another room or another city. This route, however, will cost you, as the PlayStation Portal costs $199

The setup to get Remote Play started on the Portal is easy and straightforward:

  • On your PS5, setup Remote Play by going to [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play] > [Enable Remote Play]
  • Power up the Portal
  • Connect the Portal to your home’s Wi-Fi network
  • Once it finds your PS5, it will ask you to select it to pair. If a PS5 can’t be found, make sure you’ve logged in to your console
  • When paired, press X to play

That’s it. Once the Portal is paired with your PS5, it can connect to the console from any high-speed internet.
