One of the Best Games of the Year Is Just $40 in an Early Black Friday Deal

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth came out back in February for the PS5, and I’ve already sunk hours upon hours into this game. As an early Black Friday deal, it’s a steal for $40 on Amazon, down 43% from its usual $70 price tag. This particular game is an exclusive Amazon edition, meaning it comes with the game plus a PS5 controller skin featuring main characters Cloud and Sephiroth.

Like many of the big deals dropping this season, the price won’t last long, so you’ll need to move quickly.

There’s some game history here. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga, a three-part retelling of the 1997 classic, Final Fantasy VII. The game picks up right after the first entry into the series, Final Fantasy VII Remake, which came out in 2020. Cloud and company have left the industrial city of Midgar and are exploring the world to unravel the mysteries that brought them all together.

In a review, CNET’s David Lumb praised the game’s charm, noting that it’s “rich with character heart-to-hearts, games to play and goofy but charming hijinks.”

Lumb adds, “Even without strongly diverging from the original Final Fantasy VII, Rebirth is different in letting these strangers grow closer together, moment by moment.”

And the game improves on a few aspects of Final Fantasy VII Remake from upgrading the game’s combat to adding a new item-crafting system. There’s a wealth of quests, mini-games, and other activities in Rebirth, and it can easily take someone more than 50 hours to complete the main story of the game, and many more hours to do everything.

As someone who played the original, I enjoyed how Rebirth focuses on some important parts of the storyline. It looks at the backstory of Cloud and the game’s antagonist, Sephiroth. It also creates such an amazing visual landscape that goes far beyond what could have been considered back in 1997, but it does it in a way that makes sense and fits into what I remember of the original. None of Rebirth feels like it was meant to diminish what the original had, but instead, it expands upon that world to make it more alive.

Why this deal matters

This is a solidly good price for  Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and it comes just days after the game received multiple Game Award nominations, including a nomination for the big prize, Game of the Year. Rebirth offers so much content for the original price of $70, which makes the early Black Friday price tag of $40 a big deal.

If there’s one game you want to buy to keep you busy for the entire holiday season, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth would be the game to get. It looks amazing, and it has the emotional storyline that has entranced both old and new fans.
