Three-star WR Erick Smith commits to Auburn

Three-star WR Erick Smith has locked in his college decision.

Smith, who picked up an offer from Auburn this summer after multiple visits to The Plains, committed in-state to the Tigers.

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound pass-catcher out of Selma (Ala.) Southside High School picked Auburn over rival Alabama. Both in-state SEC heavyweights extended offers to Smith over the summer shortly after his twin brother Derick Smith flipped from the Crimson Tide to the Tigers.

Only one team has separated itself from the pack since then.

“I was trying to see what was best for me. From talking to both coaches, I’ve been talking to the auburn coaches every day,” Smith told Rivals. “Coach (Marcus) Davis, all of the coaches over at Auburn, they treat me like family. I’ve liked Coach Davis even before they had already offered me. Before they offered, they still treated me like a recruit, so it was nothing to it.”

Both Davis, Auburn’s wide receivers coach, and head coach Hugh Freeze played pivotal roles in courting Smith to the Plains.

Those relationships were only strengthen by time and a consistent approach.

“Coach Davis, the Auburn coaches, they treat me the same — even when I wasn’t a top player,” Smith mentioned. “Coach Freeze and Coach Davis treat me like I’m family. They treated me like I was a priority, too. Auburn felt like home.”

Auburn continues its push toward securing a top-five recruiting haul in 2025.

Smith believes this staff has the ability to make it a reality with their approach.

“Greatness,” he said of the Auburn football staff. “They’re gonna let you know they want you every chance they get.”
