Colts coach doesn’t commit to QB Anthony Richardson as starter

Anthony Richardson’s starting job appears to be in jeopardy after Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen did not give the fourth-overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft a vote of confidence Monday.

When asked if Richardson would start in Sunday night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, Steichen told reporters, “We’re evaluating everything.”

Richardson was 10-for-32 passing for 175 yards with one touchdown and one interception in a 23-20 setback against Houston on Sunday, dropping Indianapolis (4-4) further back of the first-place Texans (6-2) in the AFC South.

In a strange moment, Richardson asked to come out for one play in the third quarter. He was replaced by Joe Flacco.

“Tired, ain’t gonna lie,” Richardson said, regarding his one-play exit. “That was a lot of running right there that I did, and I didn’t think I was gonna be able to go that next play. So, I just told (Steichen) I needed a break right there.”

Richardson missed two games earlier this season because of an oblique injury and 12 games last season because of a shoulder injury.

Flacco, 39, rescued the Cleveland Browns last season, leading the team to the playoffs after signing in November. He signed a one-year deal with the Colts this past March.
