Report: Browns to start Jameis Winston at QB vs. Ravens

The Cleveland Browns are reportedly turning to Jameis Winston, a former No. 1 overall pick, to get their season back on track.

On Wednesday, The Athletic‘s Dianna Russini reported that the 30-year-old is set to start at quarterback on Sunday against the AFC North-leading Baltimore Ravens.

Winston would replace starting quarterback Deshaun Watson, who was ruled out for the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who took over for Watson in the fourth quarter but went on to injure his finger.

Winston ended up closing the game, where he went 5-of-11, passing for 67 yards and threw a late touchdown pass to tight end David Njoku. The Browns lost the game 21-14.

To bolster its quarterback options ahead of meeting the Ravens, the Browns signed Bailey Zappe from the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad on Tuesday.

Winston, a veteran in the league, has played in 98 NFL games over the course of his career. In 80 starts, he has a 34-46 record.
