The house doesn’t always win in Las Vegas.
The New York Liberty booked a spot in the WNBA Finals for a second-straight season but did so by beating the team they eventually lost to in the Las Vegas Aces, pulling out a 76-62 victory in Game 4 to secure the 3-1 series win.
Not only is New York set to make a return to the big dance, but they also stop the Aces in their quest to three-peat.
The dynamic duo of Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu dominated for New York, going blow-for-blow with the Aces’ pairing of A’ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum. Stewart finished with an impressive double-double while Ionescu paced the Liberty from deep from beyond the arc en route to a game-high 22 points.
Wilson, the reigning MVP and 2023 Finals MVP, scored 19 but couldn’t keep pace with the Liberty’s league-leading offence.
Despite Las Vegas ending the third quarter only down two points, the Liberty pounced in the fourth and went on a 12-0 run midway through the frame to build a 16-point lead, putting the game out of reach.
The Liberty have made the Finals five times in their 27-year history but are 0-5 in those appearances. When they meet the winner of the Minnesota Lynx-Connecticut Sun series, they’ll hope to reverse their fortunes once and for all.
Minnesota is currently leading their series 2-1, with Game 4 taking place later on Sunday.
