Blue Jays skipping Bassitt’s final turn in rotation

Chris Bassitt will not be on the hill for the final Toronto Blue Jays game of the season.

The veteran right-hander was scheduled to start Sunday against the Miami Marlins but now won’t, manager John Schneider announced.

No starter was announced. Yariel Rodriguez will start the penultimate game Saturday.

Bassitt, 35, pitched 171 innings for the Blue Jays over 31 starts, posting a 4.16 ERA with 168 strikeouts.

Earlier in the week, Bassitt told reporters he planned on making the start against the Marlins.

“The bullpen is not going to cover my game. That’s not going to happen,” he said on Tuesday. “I’m healthy. I’m good… I don’t believe in, just because it’s the last game and we’re out of it, I shouldn’t throw.”
