Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the second season of its live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender, with the streaming giant showcasing it Thursday night during the Netflix Geeked Week event.
The teaser, though very brief, hints at what’s to come in season 2: Aang’s journey through the Earth Kingdom with Sokka and Katara in his effort to master earthbending now that he has airbending and waterbending under his belt. The trailer shows a pair of feet wearing ankle guards — Toph Beifong’s signature footwear — as they slide through the earth and then stomp, manipulating the ground to move. The teaser also announces that season 2 is “now in production.”
Netflix also revealed its final major addition to the main cast: Toph, who becomes Aang’s earthbending teacher this season. Toph is a stubborn and independent young woman and an earthbending prodigy in part due to being blind and having a more fine-tuned sense of touch.
Toph will be played in the live-action version by Miya Cech. Dallas Liu and Ian Ousley, the voices of Zuko and Sokka, were on hand at Netflix’s event to talk about how they’re back in Avatar “boot camp” in Vancouver right now.
Season 2 will also see the softening of the character of Prince Zuko, the full introduction of Fire Nation Princess Azula, and of course the heart-wrenching episode The Tales of Ba Sing Se — which we can only hope Netflix leaves intact for its live-action version of the show.
Avatar: The Last Airbender was renewed for seasons 2 and 3 in March this year.
During Geeked Week, Netflix has so far also revealed a teaser for The Witcher.
