Blue Jays’ Leo Jimenez returns to starting lineup vs. Cardinals

Leo Jiménez is back in the Toronto Blue Jays starting lineup Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Jiménez was scratched before Saturday’s game after sustaining a right index finger contusion while taking ground balls during warmups.

The 23-year-old from Chitre, Panama, will bat seventh and play second base in the field.

Jiménez has four home runs and 17 RBIs with a .231/.339/.381 slash line during his rookie season.

Outfielder Joey Loperfido is not in the starting lineup after leaving Saturday’s game due to left adductor discomfort. Loperfido, 25, has two home runs and eight RBIs while slashing .223/.256/.393 in 34 games since joining the Blue Jays at the trade deadline in a deal with the Houston Astros.

Watch as the Blue Jays look to complete a sweep against the Cardinals live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 1:37 p.m. ET / 10:37 a.m. PT.
