Social media users were not impressed with Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s initial reaction to video of the Baltimore bridge collapse on Tuesday morning.

Bowser posted to X an unusual, ‘Oh no,’ in response to a post on X showing images and video of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse after a cargo ship collided with a support structure for the 1.6-mile-long bridge around 1:27 a.m.

In a now-deleted post, Bowser responded on her personal account to X, formerly Twitter, around 7:00 a.m. to the horrific collapse in D.C.’s neighboring city of Baltimore, Maryland.

Asked to expand on the post, Bowser’s office referred DailyMail.com to a post the mayor made to her official X account two hours after her initial response.

‘Our prayers are with our neighbors in Baltimore and all those impacted by the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge,’ Bowser wrote on X around 9:00 a.m.

She added: ‘This morning, I reached out to [Baltimore] Mayor Scott, and we stand ready to support Baltimore in these difficult days ahead.’

Search and rescue efforts are still underway despite the freezing cold water and little chance any victims will be found alive.

Eight people were on the bridge at the time of the collision and six remain unaccounted for after people and cars plunged into the Patapsco River, Maryland’s transportation secretary said hours after the collision.

Despite her official response, X users were not quick to forget her initial glib reaction.

One user wrote to Mayor Bowser’s tweet: ‘this coming from someone who commented on another tweet ‘OH NO’. dont you have a ribbon cutting ceremony to get to?’

Another just posted a link to her now-deleted response to the Open Source Intelligence Monitor post.

The account posted on X on Tuesday morning video of the bridge collapse with description: ‘The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland which crosses the Patapsco River has reportedly Collapsed within the last few minutes after being Struck by a Large Container Ship; a Mass Casualty Incident has been Declared with over a Dozen Cars and many Individuals said to be in the Water.’

‘Oh no,’ Bowser replied.

Other government and state officials sent messages of prayer and offered assistance to Maryland and Baltimore in the wake of the tragedy that will impact the region for years to come.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis posted to X that he directed his state’s emergency services to offer their assistance to Maryland should it be desired.

‘The State of Florida stands willing to help and our prayers are with the victims and first responders,’ he wrote.
