A schoolboy who set up food banks in lockdown was overjoyed after a supermarket donated 500 Easter eggs worth more than £1,500 for him to hand out.

Isaac Winfield said it was ‘amazing’ of Aldi to donate the huge mountain of Easter eggs to his food banks.

The 12-year-old captured the hearts of the nation after he asked his mother to give him money for groceries instead of a birthday present and set up his own food bank.

The first one became so popular there are now five in his hometown of Redditch, Worcestershire. Isaac, who has a rare chromosome disorder, said: ‘It is an amazing donation from Aldi – there’s lots and lots of Easter eggs.’

The boy’s mother Claire, 43, said: ‘There are so many eggs the tower is taller than Isaac. It is just an incredible donation, the number of children we can help locally with this is huge.

‘Isaac has been incredibly excited by this donation in particular, he’s been up since 5am waiting for it. He is pretty blown away by it.

‘I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much chocolate outside of a supermarket.’

The mother of four, who said she is ‘incredibly proud’ of Isaac, added: ‘Aldi’s donation will have a ripple effect in the community and help people who need it.’

Some will be gifted at a giveaway in Redditch, while Isaac will take some to children at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Isaac’s favourite egg was Aldi’s huge space Easter egg. The supermarket has previously donated £500 worth of essentials to Isaac’s food banks after thieves raided his shed.
