Apple to allow used parts in self repair program

Later this fall, Apple will enable customers and independent repair shops to utilize used Apple parts in repairs, which helps improve the product’s longevity while minimizing the environmental impact of a repair.

With that, used genuine Apple parts will now benefit from the full functionality and security afforded by the original factory calibration, just like new genuine Apple parts.

“At Apple, we’re always looking for new ways to deliver the best possible experience for our customers while reducing the impact we have on the planet, and a key part of that means designing products that last,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “For the last two years, teams across Apple have been innovating on product design and manufacturing to support repairs with used Apple parts that won’t compromise users’ safety, security, or privacy. With this latest expansion to our repair program, we’re excited to be adding even more choice and convenience for our customers while helping to extend the life of our products and their parts.”

Apple says that even biometric sensors will work in the future for self-service repair. To simplify the repair process, customers and service providers will no longer need to provide a device’s serial number when ordering parts from the Self Service Repair Store for repairs that do not involve the replacement of the logic board.

How used parts in the iPhone repair is bad news for thieves

Apple will expand the popular Activation Lock feature to iPhone parts to prevent thieves from stealing other people’s iPhones and then selling the disassembled parts. As requested by customers and law enforcement officials, the feature was designed to limit iPhone theft by blocking a lost or stolen iPhone from being reactivated. If a device under repair detects that a supported part was obtained from another device with Activation Lock or Lost Mode enabled, calibration capabilities for that part will be restricted.

In addition, users can always check if their device uses genuine parts on the Parts and Service history tab located within Settings on iOS; later this fall, Apple says it will expand this functionality to show if a part is a new or used genuine Apple part.

BGR will let you know once people can take advantage of used Apple parts to repair their iPhones.

VPN and identity theft protections

After all these years, DuckDuckGo doesn’t need an introduction. It’s a more private internet search tool than Google Search, and it’s my default search engine on the iPhone and most of my desktop browsing. It also offers a DuckDuckGo browser for mobile and desktop.

Whether you’re using DuckDuckGo or not, now there’s a great new reason to check out the company. DuckDuckGo just launched a $9.99/month Privacy Pro subscription that delivers three great services, two of which you’ll hope you’ll never have to use.

The first is a DuckDuckGo VPN service that should improve your privacy while browsing the web on various platforms. This is the service you’ll use the most.

More interesting are the Privacy Pro protections you hope you won’t need. One of them is called Personal Information Removal. As the name implies, it’ll come in handy for removing personal information from the web.

Identity Theft Restoration is the second Privacy Pro tool you hope you won’t have to use. It’s a service that will give you access to professionals ready to help you mitigate identity theft issues.

The Privacy Pro subscription

You’ll pay $9.99/month of $99.99 per year for DuckDuckGo Privacy Pro, but the bundle is only available in the US for the time being. It’s also one reason I can’t get it, as I’ll need to wait for it to roll out in Europe.

Once you sign up for it, the three services will be available immediately, covering your security and privacy on all your devices.

The VPN service

DuckDuckGo says it built an anonymous VPN service that’s fast and secure. It works directly in the DuckDuckGo browser and encrypts all of your traffic. While you open it in the DuckDuckGo browser, it protects your traffic from all your browsers. The service also supports up to five devices at the same time.

The VPN service will make it impossible for anyone to see your browsing history. DuckDuckGo will not log or store any data about your browsing habits while using the Privacy Pro VPN.

DuckDuckGo is working with servers from the US, Europe, and Canada for the time being. Service will expand in the future to more regions. Users can connect automatically to the closest VPN server or choose one manually.

Google already lets you monitor for personal information popping up online and remove data from Google Search results. But DuckDuckGo will go one step further with the Privacy Pro subscription.

The Personal Information Removal tool will actually let you remove personal information from certain data brokers. DuckDuckGo promises to handle the entire removal process if it finds personal information about you online:

We scan dozens of these sites for your info and, if found, request its removal, even handling back-and-forth confirmation emails for you automatically behind the scenes. Unlike other similar services, we only contact the data brokers once we confirm that you’re in their databases and the info you enter for scanning is stored on your device — not on remote servers.

Users will need to set up the Personal Information Tool on a Mac or Windows PC. After that, they’ll start scans from that device. Removal requests and progress will be managed from the same device in the DuckDuckGo browser.

Identity Theft Restoration

Hackers who gain access to enough personal data can steal your identity. That’s why it’s so important to protect that data with unique, secure passwords and do whatever you can to avoid your accounts from being hacked. However, some hacks happen nonetheless, and your data can get in the wrong hands.

DuckDuckGo says that over 1 million people report identity theft cases in the US every year. Having a service like Identity Theft Restoration work for you will come in handy if you ever have to use it.

DuckDuckGo is working with Iris Powered by Generali, one of the oldest firms that deals with identity theft in the US. DuckDuckGo says that Iris identity advisors are available 24/7, every day of the year, and the average call response time is 11 seconds.

If hackers use your data to steal your identity, Iris will help you mitigate the problem. The company will work to freeze your credit report until your identity is restored. It’ll also help you cancel and replace documents like your driver’s license, bank cards, passport, and social security card.

Furthermore, Iris will provide travel assistance if you’re more than 100 miles from home and report fraudulent activity to authorities if you’re abroad when it happens.

Iris will also work with your healthcare and insurance providers to prevent fraudulent claims. Finally, in some cases, Iris will reimburse certain out-of-pocket expenses associated with the identity theft case.

Hopefully, you’ll never have to deal with recovering your identity theft.

That said, you should certainly check out DuckDuckGo’s Privacy Pro and consider getting a subscription. You’ll find more information about it here and here.

A smart lock for all of us renters

I have rented for my entire life, and being a technology nerd, renting can cramp your style with all of the restrictions that come with it. Want to mount your television? That’s not allowed in the majority of apartments. Want to paint? That might also be heavily limited or banned altogether.

Things can get even tougher if you’re a fan of the smart home. Thankfully, the current place I’m in has made it easy to switch out light bulbs for smart ones and litter my apartment with HomePod mini speakers. It’s also been easy to switch out the thermostat with a smart one.

However, one of the last things I’ve been wanting to do to complete the feeling of having a smart apartment is to switch out the lock. Of course, that’s a little bit different than popping on a new thermostat or switching out a light bulb since the landlord or property manager needs access to the apartment and most smart lock systems require you to completely change the system.

The Yale Approach smart lock with Wi-Fi.

Thankfully, my wait may finally be over with Yale’s latest product. Today, the company announced the Yale Approach with Yale Keypad, its first retrofit smart security solution. The Approach allows you to install the system on an existing deadbolt (most of them, at least), so you can actually have a smart lock — even if you rent.

Yale Keypad boasts a sleek and streamlined look to complement any entryway. The touchscreen design is backlit so it is easy to see in the dark, and is treated with an anti-fingerprint and abrasion-resistant coating to minimize wear over time. Yale Keypad is wireless and battery-operated with an IPX5 weather-resistant rating, allowing users to place it anywhere within Bluetooth® range of the lock without worrying about the weather.

If you want to access your home or apartment with a keycode, you can also add the Yale Keypad into the mix. The Keypad works with the Approach Lock so, with both, you can unlock your place either by simply walking up to your door or by punching in a code. This gives you the option to share access to your place with either a code or by inviting them to use their smartphone.

You can check out a full breakdown of each product below:

  • Yale Approach Lock with Wi-Fi is a discreet, interior-only smart lock that lets users come and go freely thanks to features like Auto-Lock and Auto-Unlock and the ability to control the lock from anywhere with the Yale Access app. This retrofit product requires only a screwdriver and 10 minutes on average to install, and is renter-friendly as it works on the back of most standard deadbolts and does not require a new set of keys.
  • Yale Keypad is a wireless accessory that is the ultimate companion for key-free convenience when paired with Yale Approach or the more than 750,000 compatible August smart locks that are currently in the market. With the Keypad’s One-Touch locking, users can securely lock the door and unlock using a personalized code. Later this year, Yale will introduce Yale Keypad Touch, a fingerprint-enabled version for users who prefer an even simpler touch form of entry.

Garrett Lovejoy, Vice President of Connected Category Management, including Yale at Fortune Brands Innovations, said in a statement that the Approach is a key expansion of the portfolio to appeal the brand to renters in addition to homeowners.

“We take immense pride in Yale’s legacy of keeping people and what they love most secure for over 180 years. With our latest development of Yale Approach and Yale Keypad, we’re tapping into our decades of experience to offer innovative upgrades for our August customers and expanding the Yale product portfolio to offer smart lock solutions that not only safeguard your home, but empower you with the freedom to come and go on your terms.”

The Yale Approach lock automatically locks your door.

There’s only one problem with this smart lock

I was so excited when I saw the announcement for this product that I was ready to hop right on over to the Yale website and order one to try on my apartment door ASAP. Then, of course, I realized a problem that would prevent me from buying this product at all.

The Yale Approach works with a ton of smart home systems like Amazon Alexa, Google Home™, Philips Hue, and Samsung SmartThings. However, there’s one smart home system missing from that list: Apple Home. Of course, I bought into the Apple Home ecosystem. Between my thermostat, lights, speakers, and even televisions, I’m fully in that system now. So, I guess the Yale Approach isn’t for me. For anyone with another smart home system, though, it’s a great value.

Available in Black Suede and Silver, Yale Approach is not just slim at 1.6 inches off the door, it has one of the smallest profiles of any smart lock on the market. Taking cues from the award-winning Yale Assure Lock 2 collection, Yale Approach prioritized a “less is more” aesthetic, unlike some smart home gadgets that can be cold and bulky.

The Yale Approach is $129.99 by itself, with the option to add the Keypad for an additional $50 for a total of $179.99. It’s available today to purchase directly from Yale and will be rolling out to other third-party merchants like Amazon soon.

Best iPhone deals available now

Below you’ll find the best deals on the iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13 and iPhone SE 2022, grouped by generation.

iPhone 15 deals

We first learned about the iPhone 15 at the Wonderlust event in the fall of 2023, with the new flagship from Apple hitting shelves on Sept. 22 of that year. It’s been several months now since its release, and you can find quite a few ways to get your hands on one for less right now.

Apple/Screenshot by James Martin/CNET

Buying your iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro directly from Apple can score you a deal. Various financing options are available, including up to $630 off unlocked models with a qualifying trade-in. Or you can opt for a carrier deal via Apple and save as much as $830 when you trade in your old phone.

AT&T is offering up to $700 off the iPhone 15, and if you’re hoping for the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, you can get up to $1,000 off. You’ll need a qualifying trade-in and an eligible unlimited plan to get the discount. If it’s the iPhone 15 Plus you’re after, you can currently score that for $11 per month with no trade-in required.

AT&T offers bill credit trade-in on phones valued as little as $35, with phones valued between $35 and $129 netting you $350 in savings, so it’s worth bringing in that older phone you never upgraded.

Right now at Verizon, if you purchase an iPhone 15 and add a new line with the Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate plan, you will get a promotional credit of $830, which essentially nets you the phone for free. The promotional credit is applied to the account as bill credits over 36 months. You can also trade in a phone to get up to $830 in promo credits, which gets you the iPhone 15 for free. You’ll need the Unlimited Ultimate plan to get this price. In a similar deal, you can get up to $750 off the iPhone 15 Plus with a new line or up to $930 off with trade-in.

If you want the iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, you can add a new line under the Unlimited Ultimate plan and get up to $1,000 off with a trade-in. If you’re an existing customer, you can upgrade to the 15 Pro or Pro Max and save up to $830.

Plus, when you buy the iPhone 15 you can get up to $280 off the Apple iPad 9th Gen, which is paid in bill credits over 36 months.

T-Mobile is offering quite a few ways to save on the iPhone 15 series at the moment. If you’ve got an old phone to trade in, you can save up to $830 on the Go5G Next plan or the Go5G Plus plan.

Or you can save up to $830 with both a trade-in and a new line of service. Those with Go5G, Magenta or One rate plan can get up to $300 off with trade-in. Any customer already on any other existing T-Mobile plan can trade in for up to $200 off.

Walmart’s carrier offers are among the best deals right now. Snag a trade-in discount through Walmart, with as much as $1,200 off the Pro and Pro Max models. You’ll have to buy on a qualifying installment plan through either AT&T or Verizon and trade in an eligible device to get the savings. Keep in mind that Walmart’s list prices of the iPhone 15 models are $50 higher than Apple’s.

MintMobile doesn’t have any straightforward discounts or trade-in offers on the iPhone 15 series. When you purchase the 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, you get six months of free service. But keep in mind you’ll have to sign up for a one-year plan to get the discount.

While Spectrum doesn’t have a huge discount on the base price of the iPhone 15 models, when you trade in any qualifying phone you will get an automatic $100 promotional discount. The phone you trade in needs to have a value greater than $1, so the odds are whatever phone you’re using will get you something. Plus, you may get additional trade-in credit.

Best Buy doesn’t currently carry unlocked versions of any of the iPhone 15 series, however, they do have carrier models for AT&T and Verizon. With AT&T you can trade in and get up to $700 in bill credits, and with Verizon you can get up to $830 on the iPhone 15.

If you’re interested in the Plus, Verizon will give you up to $930 in bill credits. And if it’s the Pro or Pro Max you’re after, both Verizon and AT&T are offering up to $1,000 in bill credits.

These offers all require a trade-in and activation of a qualifying plan.

If you’re interested in the iPhone 15, Target is offering up to $700 back in trade-in credit when purchased on a qualifying AT&T installment plan. Those looking for the iPhone 15 Plus, Pro or Pro Max can get up to $1,000 in trade-in credit when purchased on a qualifying AT&T installment plan.

If you’re looking to upgrade, you can get a straight $50 off, or get $250 off if you switch to AT&T and purchase the phone at Target. Plus, right now Target Circle members can get two months of free Apple Music with their purchase.

Be advised most of these offers are for in-store purchases only and there are no unlocked models.

iPhone 14 deals

The iPhone 14 series is still a popular line of phones and comprises the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and top-spec iPhone 14 Pro Max. Being some of Apple’s latest models, these phones won’t sport the cheapest price tag, but with the iPhone 15 series readily available, the iPhone 14 is seeing some deals that should reduce the sticker shock.

James Martin/CNET

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are available to buy directly from Apple, with delivery and in-store pickup options available. You can trade in your old device for up to $630 off your new one and use an Apple Card to get 3% back on your purchase.

If you’re interested in a carrier model from AT&T, you can get up to $514 in bill credits on either phone. T-Mobile customers can get up to $699 in trade-in credit.

T-Mobile has a few different offers on the iPhone 14, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. If you’ve got an old phone to trade in, you can save up to $830 if you’re already on or if you switch to either the Go5G Next or Go5G Plus plan. Existing customers on a different plan can still save up to $300 off.

If you add a new line on a different qualifying plan, you’ll save up to $730 and if you bring your phone over from a different carrier you’ll save up to $630.

AT&T’s best deal right now is to get the iPhone 14 for $6 per month on a qualifying unlimited plan, which will get you up to $514 in bill credits, with no trade-in required. There aren’t any significant savings on other models, including the iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max, however, you can potentially save up to $360 in trade-in credit. You can also get 20% off the Beats Fit Pro when buying.

Add a new line on a 5G unlimited plan and you’ll get the iPhone 14 for free. The discount comes in bill credits over 36 months and there’s no trade-in required. You can get up to $830 off the iPhone 14 Plus, which nets you the 128GB variant for free. Like the regular 14, you’ll need to add a new line on a qualifying unlimited plan.

New Verizon customers can also score a couple of big bonuses with their purchase. Between now and March 31, if you buy an iPhone 14 or 14 Plus on an Unlimited Ultimate or Unlimited Plus plan you can get a free Amazon Fire TV 65-inch Omni Series 4K. There’s also an offer of up to $280 off the new 9th-gen iPad.

Note that Verizon is not carrying the iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max.

Spectrum is offering a $100 instant savings on the iPhone 14 if you trade in a qualifying device. The trade-in phone must have a value of $1 or more. Plus, if the final trade-in value exceeds the cost of the new device, the difference will be refunded to your Spectrum Mobile Account.

Note that the only iPhone 14 model Spectrum carries is the 128GB model (no Pro, Plus or Pro Max).

Best Buy isn’t offering a straightforward discount on unlocked iPhone 14 models, but you can qualify for up to $325 in credit through Best Buy’s trade-in program. Best Buy is not currently carrying the iPhone 14 Plus, Pro or Pro Max.

iPhone 13 deals

The iPhone 13 may not be Apple’s flagship series anymore, but these are still solid phones worth considering. With the new iPhone 15 out now, there are some great iPhone 13 deals to be found.

Patrick Holland/CNET

You can trade in your current iPhone and get as much as $630 off the iPhone 13. If you’re handing over a base iPhone 12, the value is likely to be closer to $300. You can check what an older model will get you on the site. You can also choose to finance your phone and Apple will apply the value as credit, or you can pay the full amount for the phone and Apple will credit your payment method after receiving the old phone. Also, you’ll get 3% back if you pay with an Apple card.

T-Mobile customers adding a new line of service on a qualifying service plan can snag an iPhone 13 for free with either an eligible trade-in or when porting their existing number over from another carrier. Folks only adding a new line can still save 50% which amounts to $315 via bill credits over 24 months.

When you buy the Apple iPhone 13 device and add a new line on the Unlimited Welcome, Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate plans you will get $630 in promotional credit, which gets you the iPhone 13 128GB for free.

You can also get up to $280 off the iPad 9th Gen with the purchase of the iPhone 13.

AT&T is still carrying the iPhone 13, though they aren’t offering any astounding savings right now. You can get trade-in credit and a 20% discount on Beats Fit Pro. Be aware that the trade-in might not be available for newer devices, but AT&T will still give you some of the value in the form of a gift card.

Trade in your old device and purchase an iPhone 13 and you’ll get a discount of $100 off the regular price. This will be in bill credits if financed or instant if purchased outright.

iPhone SE (2022) deals

The budget option in Apple’s lineup, the iPhone SE was updated in 2022 but was still targeted squarely at people who wanted a no-frills iPhone experience. From $429, it’s an affordable device for anyone who wants to stick with a familiar experience.

If you want an unlocked model of the 2022 iPhone SE, you can pick it up for as much as $120 off the list price with an eligible trade-in at Best Buy.

If you prefer to buy your iPhone right from the source, you can do that with the iPhone SE. Apple has all the carrier models, along with the unlocked one. If you’re already an iPhone owner looking to switch to the SE, Apple is offering up to $630 when you trade in an iPhone 7 or newer. With a base price of $429, that means you could theoretically get the SE totally free, though you’re probably going to be trading a phone that gets you $40 to $100 off. If your trade-in doesn’t cover the full cost, you can pay the remaining cost in full, or split it into 24 months of interest-free payments when you use an Apple Card during checkout.

Carrier offers include up to $358 in bill credits from AT&T and the potential to get the phone for free from T Mobile, both require qualifying trade-ins.

When you buy an iPhone SE on a new line with any 5G unlimited plan, you can save $430, which gets you the 64GB model for free. Just note that the discount will be applied in the form of monthly credits over 36 months, even if you buy the phone outright.

Verizon is also up to $280 off the Apple iPad and $120 off the Apple watch.

T-Mobile is offering up to $830 off for people on the Go5G Next or Go5G Plus plans, which means you could get the SE for free if you have the right phone to exchange. Because you’re likely trading in an older model, you may not net that much. Those on another qualifying plan can save up to $300 with a trade-in. Another option is a 50% discount when you add a new line.

Right now Mint Mobile isn’t offering a straightforward discount on the iPhone SE itself, but you can get six months of free wireless when you purchase the phone and add a 12-month data plan with a new line.

As with the other iPhone models, Spectrum has the SE available and you can get $100 off with purchase.

Which iPhone deal is the best?

While it appears a simple question at first, the best iPhone deal for you might be different from the best iPhone deal for someone else. Apple currently sells eight different iPhone models, so choosing the right one for you means assessing your needs and preferences when it comes to things like design, features, cameras and price.

If you want Apple’s latest and greatest, you’ll want to take advantage of the offers available on the new iPhone 15 series. For the time being, the iPhone 14 is going to be the best previous-gen iPhone for most people as it balances top-tier features with a relatively affordable price (especially with the above deals). It has a bright and clear OLED display, 5G support and cameras that are more than good enough for day-to-day use, and the A15 Bionic chip powering it is a portable powerhouse.

Take the step up to the iPhone 14 Pro line and you’ll get an additional camera lens for macro photography, a more powerful A16 Bionic chip, a brighter display with the new Dynamic Island feature, plus a heftier-feeling stainless steel construction.

iPhone 13 Pro Max compared to other iPhone models

Sarah Tew/CNET

The older iPhone 13 models are still solid phones, though, and you can pick up the iPhone 13 from Apple for a while longer. Just because these are previous-gen devices doesn’t mean they might not be the best iPhone for you, with their high-quality displays, cameras and speedy performance making them a great value for money. Plus, Apple is great at supporting its older devices with software updates for many years after they are released.

If you want the most affordable iPhone, you’re going to be looking at the iPhone SE (at least when it comes to brand-new phones, that is). Updated in 2022, the third-generation iPhone SE maintains the overall design of the iPhone 8, which will be familiar to a lot of iPhone buyers. Don’t be fooled by its classic appearance, as inside it is powered by the beefy A15 Bionic chip found in the current flagship iPhone models. It also offers 5G connectivity and a 12-megapixel camera. For $429, it’s a lot of iPhone for not a lot of money.

What is the cheapest iPhone deal?

To buy outright in new condition, the iPhone SE is going to offer the cheapest iPhone deal. It starts at $429 contract-free and you can find carriers offering iPhone SE deals from as little as $0 per month making it a free or super affordable choice.

When is the best time to snag an iPhone deal?

There are a few points in the year that make the most sense to buy an iPhone. The first is when a new model launches, usually in September each year. If you’re an early adopter and want the best device as soon as possible, that’s when you’ll get it. It’s also a great time of year to buy if you’re looking for an iPhone deal as prices on older models drop to make room for the new devices.

Other times of year that make the most sense are during major sale seasons, including annual events like Labor Day sales, Black Friday and Amazon Prime Day. Apple tends not to participate in these events, at least not directly, but you can bet third-party retailers and carriers will be offering some of their best iPhone deals of the year at these times.

When will Apple release new MacBook models?

During the WWDC 2023 keynote, Apple introduced several new Macs and finally finished the transition to its own silicon by retiring the 2019 Intel Mac Pro and announcing an M2 Ultra model instead. At that time, the company finished unveiling all M2 Macs, and in October 2023, it announced the first batch of M3 Macs.

Cupertino discontinued the 13-inch MacBook Pro, expanded the 14-inch model from the M3 to the M3 Max chips, and announced a new iMac after 900 days of its first release. Then, by the beginning of March, Apple expanded the lineup with new M3 MacBook Air models. Still, there are even more M3 Macs coming in the near future

There are a few more M3 Macs waiting to be announced

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman is one of the most reliable sources about Apple’s plans to release new hardware – including new Macs. He was right about Apple readying a few new M3 Macs for a 2023 release. With the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac lineup now available, here are the other Macs users can expect in the coming months and, more specifically, in the first half of 2024.

M2 Mac Mini (2023)Image source: Christian de Looper for BGR
  • Mac mini (codenamed Mac 15,12): Gurman says Apple started testing what seems to be the M3 Mac mini.  It includes eight CPU cores, 10 graphic processor cores, and 24GB of memory. This machine runs macOS Sonoma 14.1, but it’s unclear when it could launch. Apple has recently released macOS 14.4 and it’s already testing macOS 14.5.
  • Mac Studio: Since Apple updated the M1 Max and M1 Ultra Mac Studio a year after it was unveiled, it seems this machine could see a yearly refresh, with a new model expected around WWDC24. TrendForce seems to reiterate this report; that said, we could see this machine being unveiled on June 10l
  • Mac Pro: At the moment, it’s unclear if Apple could introduce a new iteration of the Mac Pro in 2024 or if the company would wait for a redesign to bring a new machine.

Besides these computers, Mark Gurman believes Apple could introduce an iMac Pro or a model with more than a 30-inch display by 2025 or 2026. The Mac Pro and the Mac Studio have been updated during the WWDC, so newer models could be announced at the next Worldwide Developer Conference.

Although we’re not expecting any design change, the M3 family brings important changes to the GPU, which is the same focus of the A17 Pro processor. Features like Dynamic Caching, Mesh Shading for games, and hardware-accelerated ray tracing are the most impressive changes with these chips.

For a broader shift in the Mac lineup, rumors say Apple is planning an OLED MacBook Pro by 2026, and it could even launch a MacBook Air with this panel technology by 2024.
