Who let these dogs out?

Footage from last week show a dog attack unlike any seen before – a pair of pit bulls ripping apart a homeowner’s car as they attempt to hunt a cat.

It happened in Southwest Jacksonville, Florida, Thursday around 3am, while Christie Barr was still fast asleep.

Sitting down with Fox 8 Live, the longtime resident recalled awaking to the damages – estimated to be at least $3,000 – in complete disbelief.

It wasn’t until Barr called the Jacksonville Sheriff – and had officers peruse security video filmed outside her domicile – that she found the root of the damage wasn’t a person, but two pit bulls.

The cat, belonging to a neighbor, thankfully survived, she said – but the canine culprits, as or writing, remain at large, bothering a now car-less Barr to no end.

‘I thought somebody had maybe taken a BB gun and shot my car,’ she said, citing extensive damages seen in the footage.

Needing to be seen to be believed, it begins with the neighbor’s cat, an orange shorthair, sitting on the pavement near the driver’s side of the car, before seemingly spotting the dogs off-camera.

The feline proceeds to jump behind the Honda SUV’s engine bay seconds before the dogs appear – immediately attempting to access the same crevice the cat fled into.

Fortunately, they never got there, as the footage shows – but they most definitely tried, ripping Barr’s car to pieces in the process.

Eventually, after minutes of ripping and gnawing, the dastardly duo gives up, slinking away into the night.

According to Barnes, this served as a best case scenario – since her neighbor’s pet managed to survive.

She told the station: ‘There’s no doubt in my mind that if they had gotten that cat, she wouldn’t be there today,’ adding that she would never have believed  dogs could have been responsible if she had not been faced with the alarming footage herself.

As for her car, she’s since gotten a temporary replacement, from the insurance company that tacked up the damages wrought by the dogs before towing it away.

‘No one believed it was dogs until after they saw the video,’ she said of the totaled vehicle, seen in photos in pieces once the pooches had their way.

In the meantime, with the mutt’s still at large, Barr and other residents aired concerns over citizens’ safety, with the former firmly stating: ‘If they can do that to metal on a car, they’d tear a human being up.’

Fox 8 Live reportedly reached out to the city regarding animal corrections’ slow response, but as of this weekend, were still waiting to hear back.

Barr, who has lived in the otherwise placic suburb for some 35 years, said Thursday that she has also reached out to animal control, but has yet to receive a response.

In the interim, she has the following message for pet owners, providing it to Fox 30 during their sitdown.

Speaking to the dogs’ and others like them’s potential owners, she urged: ‘You need to take care of them.

‘Don’t let them be out running the streets during the middle of the night.’

As of writing, the dogs remain at large – while the cat, Barnes confirmed, was uninjured.
