Best home security cam deals

Ring/CNET

Ring has a whole crop of video doorbells, but this 1080p, battery-powered option is one of the most affordable, no-nonsense versions that’s still receives updates to get the latest Ring features. Those include customizable privacy zones and audio privacy for two-way talking, as well as improved night vision. It works particularly well with Alexa, too. A Ring Protect plan will be necessary to store video footage and get smart alerts.

Tyler Lacoma/CNET

The Blink Mini 2 is an improvement on the Blink Mini in almost every way, including a far better field of view, outdoor options and generally better performance. There’s even a mini spotlight buried in this tiny cam. The second-generation model was pricier than the first, but not with this discount, which makes it one of the most affordable, feature-packed home security cams on the market, especially for small spaces.

The Blink Outdoor 4 is a particularly well-rounded security cam that’s at home anywhere outdoors, with replaceable lithium-ion batteries that can last for years. In addition to the easy-to-use Blink app, the cam has motion detection, two-way audio, night vision and many settings options. You’ll need a Blink subscription or a spare USB drive for video storage.

Ring

This big holiday discount makes the Ring Indoor Cam one of the most affordable options for indoor security. While it’s not battery-powered like some of our favorite Ring cams, it does have color night vision, two-way audio and highly customizable alerts (a Ring Protect plan is necessary for saving cloud video). You can add an extended power cable for trickier mounting situations or just plop it on a shelf and let it go to work.

Arlo

We love Arlo’s high-end cams, but they’re too expensive for many buyers. The 2nd-gen Essential 2K cam is a perfect substitute for saving money while getting those excellent Arlo features, and with this deal you can save even more, making it one of our favorite security cam picks of the sale. This model is especially durable for all kinds of outdoor weather and includes a spotlight as well as other smart bells and whistles. Just keep in mind you may need to get an Arlo subscription to unlock everything.

Kasa

Kasa is an excellent brand for extra cheap security cameras that don’t disappoint. This HD model has pan/tilt features and object tracking for a 360-degree look around your home. It also includes important extras like night vision, two-way audio and support for both Alexa and Google Home. If you want to buy a microSD card, you don’t even have to worry about paying for video storage.

TP-Link/Amazon

If an indoor cam is a little too restrictive for you but you long for a cheap, cheap budget model, the Tapo C120 is here with an excellent 2K resolution and indoor/outdoor capabilities. You get two-way audio, color night vision and totally free person/pet/vehicle detection. Also, with the microSD card slot, there’s no need to pay a subscription for video storage. That also makes this Tapo cam the number one best security camera option to give as a gift!

Blink/CNET

Blink’s doorbell frequently makes our recommendations for a great cheap video doorbell, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it quite this cheap! If you’ve been wanting a video doorbell but don’t have a lot of money to spend on one, this is your best choice. Blink’s model includes important features like two-way audio, chime alerts, motion detection, live viewing from the app and Alexa compatibility. You will need to add a subscription or Sync Module 2 if you want video storage.

Ring/CNET

Ring has another opton if you’re focused primarily on indoor security: This pan-tilt camera can look anywhere and connect you with both live views and two-way audio as needed. It comes with an HD resolution, color night vision and all the Alexa compatibility you could ask for.

Tyler Lizenby/CNET

Canary’s all-purpose HD security cam offers the basics like two-way audio, night vision, live views and motion detection — but there are some interesting extras here that become even more interesting with this big deal. The cam includes an extra-high 10x zoom for focusing on the details, geofencing to arm or disarm the cam automatically and more.

Reolink

This camera includes top-tier security features like 4K resolution and an incredible 180-degree field of view for watching extra-wide spaces. But a standout is the included solar panel, which lets you position this camera in all sorts of places while letting the battery naturally recharge in the sunlight. If you’re looking for a serious security cam upgrade, this sale is for you.

Best home security bundle deals

For home security on a budget, Blink has a whole bundle with an Outdoor 4 cam, an all-purpose Blink Mini 2, and a Blink Video Doorbell. That’s all the video coverage most homes need, all from the very intuitive Blink app. Also, the bundle includes the Sync Module 2 to make free video storage possible. The wireless cam and doorbell run on AA lithium batteries, which are rated for up to two years of use.

SimpliSafe/CNET

We’ve haven’t seen a home security starter kit available for quite this low before! While SimpliSafe starts you off with just the essentials with this system, you still get a hub, keypad, access sensor, motion sensor and fob. That’s enough protection for an apartment or small house, and you can always add more later if you need to. Those looking for their first home security system will be happy to know that SimpliSafe is offering many similar deals on Prime Day, even for its larger systems.

Arlo

This Arlo Essential cam is excellent if you want high-end features for a more affordable price — now even better with this deal, which offers three cameras for the same price as one pricey camera (like the Google Nest Cam, for example). The 2K resolution, wireless design, outdoor weather resistance and color night vision are all excellent here. You will need a subscription for video storage or Arlo’s highly advanced custom objection detection.

Best smart lock deals

August Home/CNET

August Home’s durable smart construction often comes with a price to match, but this deal lets you get a fourth-generation August smart lock on more affordable terms. The Wi-Fi smart lock fits onto your existing deadbolt, providing it with app management including the ability to share digital keys. You can also set schedules or make sure the door automatically locks after a certain period. The lock also has excellent compatibility, working with platforms including Alexa, HomeKit, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings.

CNET/Tyler Lacoma

Aqara’s smart lock has a huge number of control options, from geofencing to working with Apple Home or Bluetooth proximity (with more features added using an Aqara hub). It’s also sturdy, responsive and has great fingerprint capabilities. If you need a smart lock, it’s currently one of our favorites and it’s now on sale.

Tyler Lacoma/CNET

We loved Lockly’s small but sturdy safe, which we couldn’t break into and has tons of smart features, including a fingerprint reader, rotating number keypad and plenty of app controls. If you’re looking for a smaller safe for all your vital documents, jewelry, etc. then Lockly’s safe is now far more affordable with this discount.

Lockly/CNET

Most smart locks are made for deadbolt locks like those found on front doors. That’s not very useful if you want smart lock protection for a non-deadbolt door like a garage side door or office door. Enter the Lockly smart latch, which fits on all kinds of latch doors but still has excellent smart features, including a number pad, fingerprint sensor and even compatibility with voice assistants via the app.

FoldyLock/CNET

FoldyLock is a rigid-style bike lock designed to foil common methods of snipping or sawing through traditional bike locks. It also folds up small enough to fit in your pocket when you don’t need it. If you’ve had problems with bike theft or similar theft of athletic gear, this is the type of protection to aim for.

Best deals for additional security

Emdak/CNET

If you’re looking for simpler security tech, these little doorstops sound an alarm when they’re activated. That’s it. They just help you know when a door has been opened. Sometimes that’s all you need, and at under $15, this pair is currently a very good deal.

Best sale security platform pick

ADT/CNET

SimpliSafe remains one of our favorite DIY home security system brands — we recently updated our review and found its advantages remain firmly in place. They’re also a reliable brand for sales, but this Black Friday sale is something else. If you add a professional monitoring subscription with your system, SimpliSafe is offering 70% off any of its systems and a free outdoor security camera. That outdoor cam also supports SimpliSafe’s latest live guard and AI recognition capabilities, a unique combination for extra watchfulness.

When’s the best time to buy home security devices?

When Black Friday weekend and Cyber Monday roll around, it’s usually the best time to check out any smart home device for discounts, including home security. The only tricky part is nabbing a great deal before supplies run out, so if you see a notable deal it’s time to make a buying decision sooner rather than later.

How we choose the best security device deals

At CNET we have a team of expert shoppers and deal hunters with years of experience. Our goal is to make sure buyers understand which major sales and deals — such as Black FridayPrime DayMemorial Day and countless other shopping events — are legitimately good and which are more routine. We’ve gotten very good at weeding out scams and superficial deals so you see only the best offers on security devices from retailers all over.

We look for real discounts, quality reviews and remaining sale time when choosing a deal to show you.

  • Real discounts mean exactly that. We look at the price history for that product to make sure no manufacturers are inflating prices to make the discount seem more substantial than it is.
  • Reviews are important for any product, but especially for deeply discounted items. If an item breaks the first time you use it, the deal isn’t a good one at any price.
  • Remaining sale time is a huge part of our vetting process. If a deal seems like it will be around for only a short while or will be available only for the remaining stock, we’ll let you know up front so you don’t come back to the deal later only to be disappointed.

We keep our articles as up-to-date as possible to bring you the best current prices.
