Clemson football commitment ‘a dream come true’ for Fla. QB Chris Denson

While it came on the verge of his career at Plant City (Fla.) High School coming to a close, the Clemson Tiger staff making it out to see Chris Denson play in person could not have come at a better time.

While Dabo Swinney and company had initiated conversation with the dual-threat talent prior, it was the in-person showing that accelerated the process for the then Coastal Carolina commitment.

On Monday, the head Tiger extended the scholarship offer to the senior and by Tuesday afternoon, the full decision flip was in.

“It’s a dream come true,” Denson told Rivals. “Being able to play under Coach Swinney, one of the best coaches in the country.

“Coach (Garrett) Riley came down to watch me last Friday night. We’ve been talking for a few weeks. Today (Monday) I talked to Coach Swinney and he offered me, just a dream come true.”

Clemson earned the commitment from the Sunshine State native despite him not having been to campus as a recruit.

One of the most productive dual-threat talents in the Sunshine State, Denson had been committed to the Chanticleers since April. Even without being on campus, something the family is working to resolve “soon,” the opportunity was too great to pass up.

As a senior, Denson accounted for about 3,500 yards and 40 total touchdowns in leading Plant City to the second round of the state playoffs, including a 437-yard, three-score performance in his final prep game last Friday night.

“Clemson is getting a very well put-together dual-threat,” he said. “My pocket presence, and how accurate I am shows as well. I expect to show that I’m able to play anywhere in the country and still be a dog.”

Excited to prove he belongs as much as he is to learn more about his future in the other part of the Palmetto State, Swinney’s program has stuck late in the game for yet another Floridian prospect.

“GO TIGERS !!! 🐅🧡💜” Denson said.
