Blue Bombers QB Chris Streveler sidelined with knee injury

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ quarterback depth has taken a major hit, with Chris Streveler suffering a devastating injury.

The backup quarterback posted on his Instagram page on Tuesday that he tore three of the four major ligaments in his left knee during Saturday’s game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

“This weekend was the first time in my life I’ve ever went down on a football field and stayed down,” Streveler wrote.“Although this will be a long road to recovery, this isn’t the end of my journey. I will attack this rehab with the same relentless work ethic and positive attitude that I bring day in and day out! See y’all back out on the field soon…”

Streveler took a hit from defensive lineman Miles Brown during the third quarter of the Banjo Bowl. He stayed down on the field holding his left knee and got help from the training staff as he hopped off the field.

As he came off the field, the 29-year-old exchanged words with the Roughriders and Brown and was on crutches after the game. During the Labour Day Classic, starting quarterback Zach Collaros was knocked out of the game by Brown on a hit, and the Saskatchewan defender received a fine from the league.

It is not known how long Streveler will be sidelined for. The injury now leaves the Blue Bombers with just Collaros and third-string quarterback Terry Wilson on the roster.

Winnipeg is currently on its bye week. The Bombers next play a home-and-home against the Edmonton Elks, looking to extend their five-game winning streak.
